Punjab Pension System Scrapped Overnight – Latest Headlines

Punjab Pension System

The Punjab government has announced a huge overhaul to its pension system, with the entire process moving to a computerised platform.

A new Gazette notification has been issued, explaining the modified Punjab Pension Rules. Traditional paper-based procedures are being replaced by a completely digital approach. Under this new approach, “e-Pension Papers” will replace the previous “Pension Papers,” and the entire application procedure has been digitised. In addition, medical certificates will be referred to as “e-medical certificates.”

These improvements are part of broader modifications to the Punjab Civil Servants Act of 1974, which aim to modernise and simplify pension management. The Secretary of the Punjab Finance Department has formalised these modifications with a Gazette announcement.

Punjab government has instructed that all ministries use an online system to manage employee attendance and leave data.

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) would be in charge of implementing the new online attendance and leave system. PITB is in charge of building the software, providing technical support, and guaranteeing a successful transfer to the digital platform.
